Beekeeping as incentive to tree plantation
This project brought by the Oromia Agricultural Research Institute, aims to promote conservation awareness through multipurpose bee forage plantation and empowering communities on improved beekeeping implementation and organic honey production.
Overview of the project
The center has 7 research cases in organized in one team:
Honey bee products post harvest handling, processing and quality control
Beekeeping management and genetic improvement which includes colony multiplication and management for better productivity
Bee botany (bee forage and pollination ecology)
Bee healthy/protection
Honeybee equipment engineering.
Apiculture research and extension socio-economic

Holeta bee research center aspires to see improved livelihood, market oriented beekeepers in Oromia and bee center of excellence in East Africa. Our mission is to adapt and generate a technological option that contributes to increase production and productivity of beekeeping, and conserve natural resources on sustainable bases through interdisciplinary and participatory research approach, need based training and advisory services there by improve the livelihood of beekeepers.
