Community ecological zone
A CEZ is a reception site for recoverable flows near neighbourhoods for the practice of the circular economy of waste. It is also a training centre for green jobs for communities, i.e., a place to incubate and capitalise on sustainable practices.
Overview of the project
A CEZ is a reception site for recoverable flows near neighbourhoods for the practice of the circular economy of waste. It is also a training centre for green jobs for communities, i.e., a place to incubate and capitalise on sustainable practices.
Indeed, the citizen philosophy of the zero waste concept is made up of actions based on reduction, sorting and selective pre-collection, but it is clear that a commitment coupled with a basic strategy is slow to emerge.
These observations were at the origin of the triggering of a new approach and vision which has enormous potential to lead an ecological and economic transition beneficial to the environment, to women and to young people through the creation of green jobs and the mastery of a local practice based on a governance around waste.
In this perspective, the community ecological zone integrates the state policy that aims to promote the implementation of waste recovery infrastructures at the scale of territorial communities, more precisely in the vicinity of neighbourhoods (acceptability).
In this dynamic, we propose, in common agreement with the local authorities, light and controllable approaches to waste recovery.
Participation in the implementation of the waste saving action at the neighbourhood level, with the aim of contributing to the improvement of the living environment and the change of people's behaviour with regard to waste.
Ongoing research
The project started on: 10 / January / 2021 "project still ongoing"
- Out of 200 identified households, 145 are members.
- More than 3 tonnes of recyclable materials were collected over 6 months.
- The project has created 7 direct jobs.
This project has made it possible to :
- Transforming neighbourhood rubbish dumps into Community Ecological Zones (CEZ), to reduce the environmental impacts of landfilling;
- Reduce the production of methane gas caused by the dumpsites;
- Increase the level of knowledge of the population on the waste resource;
- Putting the population at the heart of the prevention, pre-collection, selective collection and recovery system;
- Enable the population to understand the need to recover their waste;
- Integrate recovery infrastructures into the urban setting of neighbourhoods;
- Contribute to the acceptability of waste management infrastructures in our living spaces;
- Integrate producer responsibility into waste management processes.
This project was funded through a joint scheme.
organisation
RECYCL’OR is an association that campaigns for sustainable local development through activities related to environmental management. In particular, waste management through the establishment of a waste recovery site called the Community Ecological Zone.
