Overview of the project
Development of the RAJAPI-COP Project at COP16 of the UNCCD (United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification)
The Network of Young African Innovative Project Contributors to the COP (RAJAPI-COP) aims to be a catalyst for innovation, collaboration and the inclusion of young people in discussions on environmental issues, particularly in the fight against desertification, land restoration and climate resilience. As part of COP16, RAJAPI-COP is setting up an ambitious project aimed at engaging young people in concrete solutions adapted to local realities, while strengthening their active participation in international negotiations.
Specific objectives of the RAJAPI-COP project at COP16:
- To strengthen the participation of young Africans in negotiations on land management. RAJAPI-COP, through its members, aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators, is committed to providing tangible and local solutions to environmental challenges related to desertification and land management. The aim is to ensure that young people’s voices are heard in the discussions at COP16 and beyond, in order to bring in fresh perspectives focused on sustainable innovation.
- Highlighting innovative youth projects for land restoration and drought resilience. In the context of land restoration and drought resilience, RAJAPI-COP will support projects with a direct local impact from young Africans. These projects will cover several areas, including: sustainable agricultural practices (agroforestry, permaculture); water management (sustainable irrigation technologies, rainwater harvesting); reforestation and regeneration.
- Advocacy for women’s land rights and the inclusion of young people in environmental policies. RAJAPI-COP will highlight the issue of women’s and young people’s land rights, stressing the importance of including them in land management policies. This will be done through discussions at the parallel forums and workshops, to raise awareness among decision-makers and international stakeholders of the importance of making land resources accessible and equitable, particularly for young people and women in rural areas and vulnerable communities.
- Accelerate the implementation of local solutions through the RAJAPI-COP online platform. This will play a central role in integrating local projects into the international discussion. It will serve as a resource centre for young Africans wishing to share their projects, take part in training courses, seek funding opportunities and establish partnerships. The platform, which is already online, will also make it possible to:
– Facilitate the sharing of projects: Each young member of RAJAPI-COP will be able to present their local solutions for land management and climate resilience.
– Support mentoring and education: Experts and mentors will be available to guide young people in improving their projects.
– Encouraging regional collaboration: The platform will enable young people from different African countries to work together, exchange best practice and pool their resources.
- Strengthening the participation of young Africans in land management negotiations - Highlighting innovative youth projects for land restoration and drought resilience - Advocating for women's land rights and the inclusion of young people in environmental policies - Accelerating the implementation of local solutions through the RAJAPI-COP online platform

Expected impact: RAJAPI-COP aims to achieve several significant results through its participation in COP16:
- Increased visibility of young Africans in the fight against desertification and sustainable land management.
- Highlighting innovative local solutions for land management, biodiversity and drought resilience, with potential for large-scale adoption.
- Strengthening public policies on land management and climate, with a particular focus on the inclusion of young people and women.
- Creating strategic partnerships for the financing and implementation of local projects via the RAJAPI-COP digital platform.
- Strengthening collaboration between young Africans, governments, NGOs and businesses.
At the moment, we're financing the project from our own resources, which is why we're looking for partners to support us.
