Foyer Amélioré-KIS (FAKIS)
To train senior staff (engineers and technicians) in the field of water and forestry to ensure the rational exploitation and management of the DRC's forest resources, and in the field of agriculture to disseminate new techniques in rural areas of the DRC.
Overview of the project
The initiative stems from our teaching on energy issues in rural areas.
Following a survey of the urban and rural population, we introduced the practice of improved stoves by our students after the theoretical part of the course, in order to help the local community from an economic point of view (reduction of the budget to invest in the purchase of charcoal) and from an environmental point of view (reduction of pressure on the forest).
For a whole academic year, each student is obliged to produce 10 improved stoves and make them available to the public (for 5000 FC).
Reducing the abusive consumption of Congo Basin forests
Ongoing research
15/Mai/2022 à xx/xx/xxxx
Nearly 500 improved stoves are produced every year
The pressure on logging in the forests around the town of Kisangani is tending to reduce.
