Green city in Bafoussam
In accordance with Law No. 2004-17 of 22 July 2004 on decentralisation, the Urban Community is responsible for, among other things - The creation, maintenance and management of community green spaces, parks and gardens
Overview of the project
The “Green City” project has been underway in the town of Bafoussam since 2021. Bafoussam is the capital of the West Region and the Mifi Department, and is subdivided into three Arrondissement Communes with a surface area of 40.2 km2 and a population of nearly 1,200,000. It is an administrative and commercial town located at a point of convergence of migratory and economic flows from the Western Region and neighbouring regions, and has embarked on its industrialisation process.
It is a crossroads where people from different backgrounds and with different attitudes, behaviours, cultures and educational backgrounds come together. With its growing population, the town council had to find a solution to the problem of the town’s warming. It was this desire to find solutions to the problem that prompted us to set up this project, which is part of a sustainable development approach to mitigating the effects of global warming and protecting the environment.
Our initiative consists of :
– Planting several amenity trees and creating green spaces in the city;
– Working with the Agence Nationale d’Appui au Développement Forestier (ANAFOR) to reforest areas identified in advance;
– Collaborate with the state authorities responsible for land use planning;
– Organise public awareness campaigns through the local media on the protection of planted seedlings.
Looking ahead, we will continue in 2024 with the development of green spaces, in particular on the right of way, unhealthy areas and the reforestation of 10 ha at Gouache on the site of the collapse that killed nearly 40 people.
Giving the city a pleasant view through the development of green spaces.
