Helping to combat climate change by converting organic waste into liquid bio-fertiliser

APEV's activities include - training women and young people in rural communities to combat climate change - recycling organic waste to produce organic fertilisers

An initiative of Association pour la promotion d'un Environnement Vert (APEV)

Overview of the project

The aim of this initiative is to recycle the organic waste present in our streets, which, when closed, produces greenhouse gases such as CO2, CH4, etc., which contribute to climate change. Synthetic chemical fertilisers, when they come into contact with the soil, destroy the micro-organisms needed for plant growth and encourage insects, moulds and fungi that are dangerous to plants.
Through the production of organic liquid fertilisers, our initiatives aim to provide farmers with products that are environmentally friendly, cost-effective and regenerate the soil.

Objective

Enhance the value of organic waste by promoting organic liquid fertilisers to farmers as an alternative to synthetic chemical fertilisers and greenhouse gas emissions.

Quantitative results

To date, we have produced over a tonne of organic liquid fertiliser.

Qualitative results

Through our tests at our pilot sites and with farmers, we have obtained good results in terms of product quality.
We have supervised students who have studied the performance of our fertilisers, and who have presented their dissertations.
