My Coral Garden is the first social enterprise that allows any type of actor (business, individual, foundation, institution, government) to plant its own resistant coral.
Overview of the project
“Coral nurseries” are where corals are planted.
My Coral Garden manages a set of “coral nurseries” around the world, for the moment concentrated in South East Asia. Its mission is to create a link between communities that depend on the oceans and companies, individuals, or foundations wishing to become actors of change for our oceans.
In February 2018, “coral gardeners” planted 50 corals along Tioman Island in Malaysia in order to rebuild an entire reef.
The material used for the “nurseries” are glass bottles as they are a very effective substrate for coral growth. It is also a way to recycle a valuable material that would otherwise end up as waste on the sea floor.

We carried out our Proof of Concept in February 2018; we planted 50 resistant corals off the coast of Tioman Island, Malaysia. Five months later the corals have grown on average 35 centimeters and are already home to a dense biodiversity.
Popular support for My Coral Garden has been confirmed through contact from various partners and research centers. We have also just been accepted into the Sciences Po (Paris, FR) incubator.
We launched a crowdfunding campaign on Ulule in May 2018 (https://fr.ulule.com/my-coral-garden/) which greatly exceeded our expectations.
This campaign allows us to plant an entire reef in Malaysia; implementation begins in early September 2018.

Planting corals and rebuilding reefs helps to not only mitigate climate change effects and rebuild threatened marine ecosystems, but also to ensure food security for coastal populations while protecting them from climatic disasters and erosion.
