Reducing the Environmental Impact of Deliveries in Urban Centers

Overview of the project
Thanks to the nature of our activities, we make a significant contribution to achieving 3 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals:
Goal 13: Measures to combat climate change
Urban goods transport accounts for a significant proportion of kilometers traveled and the largest share of negative externalities. All our deliveries are made using cargo bikes, guaranteeing zero carbon emissions.
In addition, our choice to be based in a co-working space encourages the sharing of premises and services. We are committed to sustainable practices on a daily basis, whether in route planning, inventory management, waste management or administrative procedures.
Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth:
We seek to create direct, local and quality jobs, particularly for young people, by choosing to have a team made up entirely of salaried employees. In addition, we pay particular attention to the working conditions and supervision of our couriers, in order to guarantee high standards.
Objective 11: Sustainable cities and communities
By opting for cargo bike deliveries rather than motorized vehicles, we contribute to calming urban areas. Bicycles take up less public space. Their circulation in cities is less dangerous than that of motor vehicles.
Incorporated as a cooperative society approved as a social enterprise, Rayon9's aim is to reduce the environmental impact of urban deliveries while creating quality jobs for young people!

- 130,000 emission-free transports (since 2016)
- 200,000 km cycled
- a team of 8 employees, including 6 couriers, all on permanent contracts
- a fleet of 8 cargo bikes and 3 trailers (for transporting heavier loads and pallets)
- The loyalty of customers of all sizes and types (craftsmen, associations, small, medium and large companies).
- The loyalty of our team of couriers (the oldest has been with us for 6 years, the most recent arrival has been with us for almost 2 years).
- The creation of a general assembly of 120 cooperators, proof that the project is co-sponsored by citizens.

Rayon9 is a Liège-based cyclo-logistics company specialising in cargo bike transport in Liège, Belgium.
Active since 2016, we offer our services to companies and retailers: one-off or regular deliveries, customised rounds, storage, first and last mile. Since 2021, we have also been carrying out transition consulting assignments for companies and local authorities wishing to reduce the carbon footprint of their activities.
Rayon9 is also part of a wide and virtuous network of projects, structures and federations:
– locally, through various projects with organisations such as Ceinture Aliment Terre Liégeoise (https://www.catl.be/)
– in the Belgian Cycle Logistic Federation, which it co-founded with 5 other similar companies in Belgium (www.bclf.be)
– on an international scale, through its involvement in CoopCycle, the international federation of bicycle delivery cooperatives of which it is a member (www.coopcycle.org).
