Workshop on the project to create a “Regional Coalition for Green and Net Zero Buildings in Central Africa”
ARPEDAC is working to put in place the appropriate regulatory framework for renewable energy and energy efficiency to make a growing contribution to the Central African region's energy mix.
Overview of the project
The “Regional Coalition for Green and Net Zero Buildings in Central Africa” aims to create a strong political will in the eleven ECCAS countries and to increase the competitiveness of ECCAS companies/actors in the building and construction sector offering products and services adapted to the needs of the ECCAS markets.
To help the eleven countries achieve the objectives of the future coalition through political and financial actions throughout the building life cycle, our activities will be centred around eight Working Groups (WG):
- WG 1 – Urban planning (Urban planning, or territorial planning…)
- WP 2 – New buildings (Energy and environmental performance of new buildings, etc.)
- WP3 – Existing buildings (Energy and environmental renovation of existing buildings, etc.)
- WP4 – Building operation (Reduction of building operating costs, via technical solutions to reduce the energy consumed throughout the life of the building…)
- WP5 – Appliances and systems (Technologies for water efficiency, lighting, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, etc.)
- WP6 – Materials (Valorisation of local materials and the energy and environmental intensity of building materials, etc.)
- WP7 – Clean Energy (Integrating renewable energy technologies into buildings…)
- WG8 – Resilience (Involving decision-makers and building professionals in the deployment of actions to adapt to climate change, “Understanding climate risk data and accepting uncertainty”, etc.)
Putting buildings at the heart of the fight against climate change in Central Africa and promoting Green and Net Zero Energy Buildings in the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS).

Specifically, the aim is to:
– Raise awareness among 100 key stakeholders (municipalities, companies and universities) from ECCAS and the governments of the 11 countries about the issues and actions of the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC);
– Present the GlobalABC regional roadmap for buildings and construction in Africa in general and Central Africa in particular;
– Present the 4 main challenges of the project to create a Regional Coalition for Green and Net Zero Buildings in Central Africa (Certification, Access to Green Funds, etc.).
– To encourage stakeholders to adopt and take ownership of the project, to identify stakeholders’ expectations more clearly and to draw up a consensual roadmap.
At the end of these workshops/seminars, the expected results are :
- Stakeholders will have appropriated the project and contributed to the contents, functionalities and membership modalities of the Regional Coalition for Green and Net Zero Buildings in Central Africa, and
- The necessary resources will be mobilised or identified to facilitate the implementation of the project to create the regional alliance and carry out concrete actions under the prism of the GlobalABC regional roadmap for a zero-emission, efficient and resilient building and construction sector in Central Africa by 2050.
