The Forgotten – Dead Or Alive
This project leaded by Hermann Kamte & Associates is a proposal for the regeneration of the dying Lake Chad Water by the proposal of a Limnology and a Desalination Centre on the site.
Overview of the project
Lake Chad is shrinking and surroundings are under a critical process of desertification. The situation endangers the local ecosystem, threatens one of the world’s most important cultivable area and millions of rural people making a living out of it.
“The Forgotten : Dead or Alive” is a regeneration project which will consist of a Limnology and a Desalination Centre. The Limnology Centre will be a self-sufficient with the mission to study the lake and its surroundings. At the same time, the Desalination Centre with its Pipelines will connect the Atlantic Ocean and Lake. The process is in three phases. From 2016 to 2026, the first stages will be at the same time, the study of the lake and the construction and the connection of the pipelines. In 2020, the second stage will be the start of greenness the lake surrounding with trees and low vegetation for agriculture. In 2080, the final stage will be the beginning of natural regeneration relay; pipelines will be stopped.
The project is a research in progress, but currently under financial threat. HKA is looking for new partners to develop this regeneration initiative. If you are based in the region or have any interest in the issue, please get in touch!
