Heerlen • A “5th generation” heating and cooling network
With funding from the European Union and the Dutch government, the city of Heerlen drilled five wells to benefit from old coal mines from the city's industrial past and use them as sources of heat and cold, through a "Fifth generation" district heating and cooling network.
