The Presidencies of COP 22 and COP 23 conducted extensive consultations on the Talanoa dialogue throughout 2017, which continued during the twenty-third session of the COP.
This informal note has been prepared by the Presidencies of COP 22 and COP 23 on this basis. It presents the modalities of the Talanoa Dialogue : a new method to engage the discussion among all actors engaged in climate action.
This text, an annex of the decisions of COP23, exposes the modalities of the Talanoa dialogue, which will be held under the aegis of the Fidji presidency until the end of 2018.
In parallel to these climate negotiations that are featured by States, the Talanoa Dialogue aims to collect all actions, initiatives and ideas which proved efficient. Everybody can contribute to this process through a sharing platform. Everything is open. But there are some rules. The proposal needs to be made within the framework of three questions:
Where are we? Which implies to express one’s level of optimism or pessimism in relation to the stabilisation of global temperatures under 2°C.
Where do we want to go? A question which involves to expose the extent of one’s motivation.
How do we get there? A good spot to express one’s idea, initiative or project.
