Climate Chance Europe Africa 2025 Summit

Adapting public transport in Africa

Description

As some of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries and cities, particularly in the Global South, face the growing impacts of climate change, the urgency of adapting urban mobility systems continues to rise.

This workshop will:

  • Demonstrate how climate adaptation principles can be effectively incorporated into Sustainable Urban Mobility Planning (SUMP) through real-world examples and actionable steps.
  • Outline key steps to ensure successful adaptation within mobility planning processes.
  • Share case studies from French cities that have implemented climate adaptation projects, exploring how these initiatives can be replicated in African cities through decentralized cooperation—and vice versa.
