Climate and environmental reporting of cities and regions on the CDP platform: how to proceed? and what does it tell us about mitigation and adaptation?

“You can’t manage what you don’t measure”. Measuring and reporting climate and environmental data each year improves awareness and ensures cities’ and regions’ strategy is well-informed. As a European city, submit a response to the CDP Cities Questionnaire, showcase your climate and environment action plans, emission reduction targets, mitigation and adaptation actions, and get a CDP score. You may be rewarded with an “A” that highlight most transparent and performant cities like Paris, Berlin, Athens, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Helsinki, Reykjavik, Barcelona, Zürich, Porto, Florence, Turku, Espoo, Lund, Lahti, Braga, Linköping, Elsinore, Padua, Gladsaxe, Høje-Taastrup, Arendal, Egedal, Växjö and Västervik in 2021. Regional authorities can also participate. Like the regions Lombardy, Grand-Est, Occitanie, Andalusia, Catalonia, Thuringia, Lower Austria, Upper Austria and almost hundred more across the world that measure and track their climate and environmental impacts and actions, submit a response to the CDP States & Regions Questionnaire to increase transparency and accelerate transition. 

CDP is the global non-profit that runs the world’s environmental disclosure system for companies, cities, states and regions. Over 14,000 organisations around the world disclosed data through CDP in 2021, including more than 13,000 companies and over 1,100 cities, states and regions. Fully TCFD aligned, CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a zero carbon, sustainable and resilient economy.

This workshop will provide an overview of the Questionnaires, explain how CDP evaluates your reported data and provide you with a score to indicate your performance across climate change adaptation, mitigation and transparency. We will also demonstrate how you can take advantage of the “one-stop-shop” reporting principle thanks to official recognition of the CDP reporting system for third-party initiatives such as the Global Covenant of Mayors, ICLEI, C40, UNFCCC’s Cities Race to Zero and Race to Resilience, European Climate Pact, Climate Group, Regions4, and many more. Finally, the workshop will provide key insight from the collected data and share information on how European cities and regions are progressing toward their climate and environmental goals. 

For the European Climate Pact, this workshop will also provide a detailed explanation on how  local authorities can streamline their pledging process via CDP reporting and take advantage of the Pact universe.
