Improving road safety in cities of the Global South
Description:
« Not a single low income country reduced its road injury rates », said E. Krug in the Stockholm Declaration on Road Safety, which was adopted in February 2020 by the ministerial conference marking the end of the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety (2011-2020). It recalls the global nature of road safety, which requires international cooperation and multi-sectoral partnerships. However, the results in terms of road deaths are disappointing, especially in the countries of the South. The measures taken have not been sufficient to reduce the number of injuries and deaths on the roads, and the situation is increasingly unequal.
The session will propose to draw up an inventory of the situation in Africa, and on the needs for action and intervention. Major road safety actors will present their approaches and approaches to reducing accidents in Senegal. Health issues will also be addressed to complete the global approach to road safety
